Chios Mastiha - A 100% NATURAL PRODUCT (ALSO KNOWN AS GUM MASTIC)



A natural resin derived from the trunk and branches of the schinos, the Greek name for the mastiha tree Pistacia Lenticus var. Chia- a shrub of small evergreen tree native to Mediterranean region and principally cultivated on the Greek island of Chios. New Study with Chios Mastiha Demonstrates Antimicrobial Properties Against Various Pathogens & Successful Encapsulation of Probiotics in Fermented Milk

Encapsulation of probiotics help to improve the survival rate of the microorganisms during intestinal transit. This study showed that encapsulation with mastic gum favoured the viability of probiotics during refrigerated storage while positive antimicrobial properties further extended the shelf-life of the products. Hence, mastic gum could be a promising approach to deliver probiotics in functional fermented milk product.
