Damasty and Skin Aging: What Does The Science Say?

Beauty is no longer just about what we apply to our skin, it is also about how we support it from within.

According to NielsenIQ’s State of Beauty 2025 report, 50%of global consumers consider regular self-care more important than they did five years ago, while 44% plan to increase their vitamin and supplement intake over the next 12 months [1]. These findings reflect growing consumer interest in wellness and self-care, creating opportunities for beauty-from-within solutions.

Oxidative Stress: An Overlooked Factor in Skin Ageing

Daily exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation, air pollution and other environmental stressors can increase the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS). When these exceed the body’s antioxidant defenses, oxidative stress occurs and this can potentially damage cellular components and accelerating the breakdown of collagen and elastin. Over time, this process contributes to wrinkles, uneven pigmentation and reduced skin radiance. [2]

Antioxidants help counter this imbalance by neutralizing free radicals and supporting the body’s natural defense systems. While topical skincare remains essential, nutritional approaches offer another way to support skin health from within.

Damasty as powerful natural antioxidant

Nature’s Answer: The Antioxidant Potential of Damask Rose

Found in edible flowers and traditionally used in food preparations, Rosa damascena, or Damask rose, contains polyphenols, including gallic acid, ellagic acid and flavonoids. These compounds have demonstrated antioxidant activity, making the rose an intriguing ingredient for beauty-from-within applications.

Robertet’s Damasty® takes this concept further through an upcycling process that recovers valuable polyphenols from rose hydrodistillation by-products. Its formulation combines rose extract with superoxide dismutase (SOD)-rich melon concentrate and vitamin C from acerola, bringing together complementary antioxidant components. [3]

What Does the Clinical Evidence Show?

In an exploratory clinical study published in Food and Nutrition Sciences in 2025, 40 women aged 40–60 received either a placebo or a daily combination containing 140 mg of rose extract, 140 mg of acerola extract and 20 mg of melon concentrate for eight weeks.

The formulation group showed a 137.4% increase in skin antioxidant efficiency at week four and a 91.4% increase at week eight, compared with baseline. Both responses were statistically significant, while changes in the placebo group were not significant. [2]

Clinical studies have highlighted Damasty®’s promising skin benefits, demonstrating its potential to enhance skin radiance and promote a more even skin tone for a healthier, more luminous complexion. Find out more here.
