Helicobacter pylori is a gram negative, spiral-headed bacterium that can survive the acid environment of the stomach causing gastritis and gastric ulcer and if untreated, can lead to gastric cancer. It is estimated that up to 50% of the world’s population is infected with H.pylori.

Conventional treatment usually involves a combination of antibiotics and acid-reducing drugs (PPI) that often comes with side effects such as diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, etc. Pylopass™ is spray-dried Lactobacillus reuteri DSM17648 that helps to reduce H.pylori load in the stomach through a unique mode of action.
The surface structures on Pylopass™ contain adhesion molecules (shaped like hooks, shown here in blue) that recognize and adhere to surface structures on H. pylori (in red). In this way, Pylopass™ forms coaggregates with H. pylori, after which the entire coaggregates are excreted from the body through the digestive tract.
Efficacy Proven In Clinical Study Involving Children
One recent published clinical study involving Pylopass™ in children reviewed that Pylopass™ has similar effectiveness as compared to standard quadrotherapy with 2 antibiotics and bismuth. The study also found that side effects such as abdominal pain and diarrhea was reduced in subjects taking the standard therapy and Pylopass™.
